Piha Beach is an ideal weekend escape to immerse yourself in nature. This black sand beach offers great spots to relax, read a book, have a picnic, or, for the more adventurous, go surfing. The water is crystal clear and exceptionally clean. However, finding parking on weekends can be challenging.
This beach, located north of Piha Beach, is incredibly beautiful and secluded, surrounded by hills and cliffs. On the north end of the beach, there is a large cave that offers a great opportunity for exploration. The beach has black sand, which can become scorching hot under the sun. It is advisable to wear sandals or shoes and bring a towel to sit on. Accessing this beach is not easy, but there are two ways to reach it from Piha. One option is to take the Marawhawa trail from north Piha road, located at the northern end of Piha Beach. After walking for approximately 10 minutes, you will reach the White trail, which will lead you to Whites Beach after a 45-minute hike. Alternatively, you can drive north on Piha road for about 10 minutes until you reach Anawhata road. Turn left onto Anawhata road and continue driving for approximately 20 minutes until you reach the Rose trail parking area. From there, it is a downhill walk of about 30 minutes to Whites Beach. Although the steep walk back up may be a bit longer and more challenging, it is definitely worth it!
Plage incroyablement belle ! La cascade Karekare se trouve à seulement 5 minutes à pied du parking. La route menant à la plage est agréablement sinueuse, il est donc conseillé de conduire tranquillement car les véhicules venant en sens inverse peuvent ne pas être visibles dans les virages.
This beach is absolutely stunning. The sand is black and soft, and the area is clean and not too crowded. However, the parking lot becomes quite busy after noon. It tends to get very windy, particularly on the left side between the two mountains on the beach. Unfortunately, the caves are closed.
This beach is truly amazing. The car park is quite small, as is the alternative one. However, there are plenty of places to play and seek shelter from the sun. The picnic spots are absolutely beautiful. It's important to be cautious of the Pacific Ocean waters, as is typical of the West Coast. My favorite find was the oyster heart 😊.
