The beach is stunning with miles of white sand and clear water. The water is freezing at this time of year but refreshing and the dunes offer some shelter from the wind to dry off. The highlight is definitely the sunset and the way the light changes, it's worth the 3hr drive just for that one hour of magic! There are a few hidden dangers with rip currents that are easy to miss if you don't know what to look for. But read the safety signs at the gate and you'll know what to look out for. There is a decent size carpark which always seems to have spaces. I was disappointed to see the portaloo toilets had been removed from the carpark which has led to some irresponsible disposal of wipes and toilet paper on the dunes but that's a reflection of people not the place.
Lots of space so ideal if you have any dogs, want a family day out or just some where to relax.
Toilet amenities close to the beach.
You also have the grass area which lies between the dunes and the beach adding another layer to the scenery.
Would definitely go back if in the area. Also easy to get to from Campbeltown and plenty of parking when I visited.
Westport Beach is popular. It has riptides that you need to know about so check the information board in the parking space. It's important to be careful here because of these tides and also cause of the exposed area that have the force of the Atlantic ocean.
Sunsets are magical here. Walking your dog is an experience for yourself and your pooch. And getting here is easy. Buses pass here and there's a small parking lot. There's a surfing school during the summer.
I love this place but have never gone swimming. I normally do that in calmer waters.
Beautiful beach, great for sports, camping and walks. Great place for dogs. Views are amazing and you can walk for hours. Just off the beach there is some beautiful sand dunes which are amazing for the kids. Amazing beach for surfing, the waves are unbeatable.
